The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a suspected cattle rustler and recovered two cows and a Toyota vehicle used in the crime in Suru Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, the breakthrough followed actionable intelligence that led a police patrol team to intercept the suspect, identified as Basiru Abdullahi, on August 27, 2025, at about 11:00 p.m. in Suru District.

“Abubakar said Abdullahi was found in possession of two cattle reasonably suspected to have been rustled.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to conspiring with four others, Garba Chairman Datti, Ja’e Ango, and two accomplices currently at large, to steal three cows belonging to one Sarkin Fulani Usman of Suru.

“They later sold the rustled cows for ₦500,000 to one Safiyanu Aliyu of Jega town and Naziru Danmanu, who is also now at large.

“Similarly, one green Toyota vehicle with registration number Naija-Minna 708XB, used during the operation, was recovered,” the statement read in part.

The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Birnin Kebbi for further investigation and to track down the fleeing suspects.

Commending the Divisional Police Officer in Suru and his team, the Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, lauded their professionalism, swift response, and intelligence-driven policing strategy.

He assured the public of the Command’s determination to dismantle criminal networks across Kebbi State, particularly those involved in violent crimes and cattle rustling.

Sani urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information to security agencies to aid prompt responses to criminal activities.
