The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested two individuals in separate operations for suspected banditry and illegal possession of firearms.

Police sources told Akelicious that on June 2, 2025, at about 1700hrs, operatives arrested one Ibrahim Mohammed, 50, in a sting operation after luring him to a meeting point under the guise of purchasing firearms.

The suspect, believed to be an arms courier for bandit groups, confessed to representing known bandit leaders including one Babuga and another identified as Abubakar, a.k.a. Birki, said to be terrorising the Mayanchi–Maru–Bukkuyum axis.

In a separate development, on June 7, 2025, at about 1600hrs, police officers on vehicle patrol intercepted one Tukur Auwal, 27, of Birnin Magaji Local Government Area, along the Gusau–Funtua federal highway.

“He was found in possession of two revolver rifles concealed in a polythene bag. Initially, he claimed to have been sent by his community for protection purposes. However, when community leaders were invited, they denied any knowledge of the arms purchase,” the report added.

The suspect later changed his statement, saying he was hired by two individuals from Abuja to procure the weapons.

The police sources said investigations are ongoing to apprehend the arms manufacturers and other accomplices. The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.
