Residents of Kuraje village in the Damba area of Gusau Local Government Area were thrown into panic on Friday night when armed bandits invaded the community around 9:45 p.m., abducting 10 women and 15 children.
The attack, which heightened fears amid ongoing insecurity across Zamfara State, was swiftly countered by a coordinated response from security forces. According to official reports, joint operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command and the Community Protection Guards immediately launched a rapid pursuit after receiving the distress call.
The security team engaged the attackers in a fierce confrontation, forcing the bandits to abandon the abducted victims. All 25 hostages were rescued unharmed, though visibly distressed, authorities said.
The victims were taken to Sabongari Damba for safety profiling and medical checks before being reunited with their families.
Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, commended the officers involved for their swift and courageous response. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intensifying operations against banditry across the state.
Police spokesperson DSP Yazid Abubakar confirmed the successful rescue in a statement issued on Saturday.
