The Presidency on Sunday announced that Nigeria has recorded an 81 percent reduction in terror-related fatalities since 2015, attributing the improvement to strengthened counter-insurgency operations and increased collaboration among security agencies and local communities.
In a statement posted on its official X handle, the Presidency disclosed that more than 13,000 terrorists were neutralised in the past year, while over 124,000 fighters and their family members have surrendered to security forces. It added that approximately 2.1 million internally displaced persons have returned to their communities, with reconstruction efforts ongoing in previously affected areas.
The Federal Government has also launched a Resettlement Scheme for Conflict-Affected Persons to support rebuilding efforts and facilitate the reintegration of displaced citizens.
According to the statement, enhanced inter-agency coordination since 2023 has intensified the pursuit, arrest, elimination, and prosecution of individuals linked to major attacks across the country. It noted that more than 124 suspects have been convicted since 2024, while others — including members of the Ansaru leadership and suspects in the 2022 Owo church attack and the Yelwata reprisal killings in Benue — are currently standing trial.
The Presidency further highlighted ongoing deployments of joint task forces, improved border surveillance with domestic and regional partners, victim compensation initiatives, permanent joint patrols, and strengthened intelligence-sharing with international allies as part of efforts to safeguard citizens and reinforce national security.
