Dr. Pedus Eweama is a globally recognized authority in strategic health policy reform, healthcare innovation, and grassroots community mobilization. Born in Imo State, Nigeria, Dr. Eweama has spent over two decades making significant contributions to healthcare delivery, public policy, and community development, both in Australia and internationally.

With more than 20 years of experience across public, private, and not-for-profit sectors, Dr. Eweama’s professional journey reflects a deep commitment to improving lives through health system transformation and inclusive leadership. He is widely acknowledged for his expertise in clinical service redesign, having played a key leadership role in the West Australian Department of Health, particularly in 2007 when he spearheaded the Clinical Service Redesign Project under the North Metropolitan Area Health Service. His innovative leadership helped reshape the accessibility and efficiency of healthcare delivery in Western Australia.

In addition to his governmental work, Dr. Eweama serves on several influential boards and advisory committees. He is a current member of the West Australian Primary Health Alliance Clinical Council and the WA Department of Health Advance Care Planning Community Reference Group, where he continues to shape healthcare strategy and patient-centered care policies.

Dr. Eweama’s impact extends far beyond health policy. He is a dynamic grassroots leader and has chaired multiple African and Nigerian community organizations in Australia, including the Igbo Association of Western Australia (IAWA), the Nigerian Association of Western Australia (NAWA), and the Council of Nigerian Associations Presidents in Australia (CoNAPA). His tireless community engagement earned him the Community Champion Award in 2022 from the Organisation of African Communities Western Australia (OACWA), and in 2023, he made history as the first African recipient of the City of Swan’s “Community Citizen of the Year” Award in Western Australia.

In recognition of his enduring contributions to medicine and healthcare, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, through the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), will honor Dr. Eweama with the prestigious National Diaspora Merit Award 2025. The award ceremony, to be held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Saturday, 26th July 2025, marks the first time a Nigerian based in Australia will receive this distinguished national recognition. It celebrates his commitment to national development, his ability to mobilize the diaspora for collective progress, and his unwavering resolve to promote Nigeria’s global advancement.

Dr. Eweama also serves as an Ambassador for the Australia Day Council of Western Australia (AUSPIRE), using his platform to promote multiculturalism, inclusion, and civic engagement.
