Projects attracted from FG were being executed without interruption while incarceration -Senator Kalu revealed

Orji Uzor Kalu, ex-Governor of Abia State and current Senator representing Abia North district in the Red Chamber, has stated that the six months he was incarcerated in Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja, has rather spurred his desire to work for the people of Abia North in particular and Abia State in general.

Kalu, who is also the Majority Chief Whip of Nigeria Senate, stated this on his first visit to his country home after his jail experience, reiterated that rather than diminish his quest to serve his people, his incarceration serves as a source of motivation to take his constituency to greater heights.

AKELICIOUS recalls that the Supreme Court had nullified the conviction of a former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu.

Also nullified was the judgement against his firm, Slok Nigeria Limited and Jones Udeogu, a former Director of Finance and Account of Abia State Government.

The apex court ordered their fresh trial at the lower court.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment over N7.16 billion fraud by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, on December 5.

Justice Mohammed Idris had convicted Kalu on a 39 count of N7.2 billion fraud and money laundering preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

However, the Supreme Court gave a fresh order, stopping the judgment.

Justice Amina Augie who led a seven-man panel of Justices held that the trial Justice Mohammed Liman Idris of the Federal High Court in Lagos acted without jurisdiction.

But, fielding questions from reporters at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, on Monday, Kalu, who was received by a mammoth crowd on his way to his Igbere country home, in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, pointed out that dividends of democracy to the people of the Abia North zone remained unaltered in spite of his confinement.

The federal lawmaker maintained that though he was away in confinement, the zeal to work for the people remained sacrosanct, pointing out that all the projects he had attracted from the federal government were being executed without interruption.

“Go to Abia North, you will see that it is a huge construction site. The 19 road projects I attracted to the zone are executed unhindered till today. It has not happened before in any senatorial zone of Abia State.

“Development projects will continue to be executed as long as I serve the people in whatever capacity. I will continue to offer my services to the people. I’m a homeboy who loves my people and my people love me, “he boasted.
