Human rights lawyer, Bar. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has issued a strong reaction to the ongoing Senate screening of social commentator Reno Omokri, warning that the outcome may have far-reaching political consequences for serving Igbo Senators ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement on Thursday, Ejiofor said that if Omokri successfully scales through the screening process, it would mark a turning point for the political landscape in the South-East. He noted that the development should compel the electorate to prepare their voter cards and participate actively in the forthcoming polls.
According to him, if the 2027 elections uphold the sanctity of the ballot and every vote is allowed to count, no incumbent Senator of Igbo extraction should expect an automatic return to the Red Chamber.
Ejiofor insisted that such lawmakers “ought to prepare for a well-deserved retirement,” stressing that the political climate has reached “a threshold to cowardice” and that “enough should be enough.”
