The House Committee on National Planning and Economic Development has called for stronger coordination and improved implementation of Nigeria’s development plans to achieve sustainable economic growth.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Gboyega Isiaka, at a press briefing ahead of the National Policy Dialogue, said Nigeria has over the years, developed several national plans from pre-independence frameworks to post-independence strategies, including the Structural Adjustment Programme, the National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy, NEEDS.

He explained that the current Perspective Plan (2021–2050), broken into medium-term plans, as well as the proposed Renewed Hope National Development Plan (2026–2030) under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, are part of efforts to reposition the country towards achieving a one-trillion-dollar economy.

Isiaka noted that despite these efforts, many plans have fallen short due to poor alignment among tiers of government, policy inconsistencies, and external economic shocks.

The event will hold on April 14th and 15th, 2026, at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, bringing together policymakers and stakeholders to develop strategies to boost Nigeria’s growth beyond the current 3.5 per cent.
