Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday, marking their first official engagement since Fubara’s suspension from office and the subsequent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.
Reacting to the development, Arise TV anchor Rufai Oseni described the move as a political surrender, saying Fubara “has no choice” but to visit the President, noting that in the game of politics, he has been “brown-bitten.”
Oseni stressed that despite signs of reconciliation, the public must not ignore or accept the state of emergency declared by President Tinubu, insisting that the Supreme Court must be allowed to rule on the ongoing legal disputes.
He also questioned the governor’s sudden shift in tone, recalling a recent church service where Fubara declared that “his mind had left the place.” Now, according to Oseni, there are indications that tensions are easing, with Tinubu reportedly referring to Fubara as “his son.”
Oseni concluded by expressing concern over the nature of Nigerian politics, saying many leaders prioritize power over principle. He called for a return to values and urged politicians to stand for something meaningful, especially in a country facing poverty, hunger, and instability.
