Public affairs commentator and Southeast activist, Eneh Victor Chigozie, has reacted to the judgment delivered by Justice James Omotosho sentencing Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, to life imprisonment, expressing relief that the Southeast region has remained calm following the ruling.

Chigozie said the calmness across the region reflects the collective fatigue and suffering experienced by residents since the agitation began in 2015. According to him, many families including early supporters of the movement lost loved ones during years of unrest.

He noted that several communities were overrun by criminal elements who operated under the guise of agitation, leading to widespread insecurity and hardship.

“The Southeast is calm because this judgment came at a time Igboland began to recover from the criminality that took over the land,” he said.

Chigozie added that states across the region from Ebonyi to Enugu, Anambra, Imo, and Abia have witnessed significant improvements in security, with previously troubled communities gradually restored. Major cities such as Enugu, Aba, Awka, Onitsha, and Owerri, he said, are now relatively stable as residents are unwilling to relive the violent disruptions of the past decade.

He commended the people of the Southeast for their maturity and restraint in the aftermath of the court ruling.

Chigozie expressed confidence that leaders at various levels would engage the presidency to pursue a political resolution to Kanu’s case.

“Nnamdi Kanu will surely come out. And it is only a political solution that can guarantee it,” he stated.
