Former Nigerian Senator and human rights activist, Shehu Sani, has expressed strong opposition to any potential move by the United States government to place a travel ban on Nigerian citizens.
In a statement released on Sunday, Senator Sani argued that Nigeria does not fall into the category of countries that pose any security threat to the United States, and therefore, should not be subjected to such restrictions.
“The US should not ban Nigerians from traveling to their country. There is no reason to do that. We don’t fall into the category of those countries they consider as threats,” Sani said.
He also urged the Nigerian government to respond with equal diplomatic measures if such a ban is imposed. “But if they eventually ban us, our country should respond with a similar gesture,” he stated.
