Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has accused a police officer of stealing his AI Rayban glasses during a peaceful protest at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Monday.
Sowore told newsmen that the officer, allegedly in plain clothes, was caught on camera removing the expensive eyewear amid the demonstration, which called for improved welfare and the removal of retirees from the contributory pension scheme.
While the Nigeria Police Force has yet to comment, the incident has triggered online reactions, with many calling for accountability. The protest, attended by retired police officers and other activists, continued despite resistance from police authorities, ending without violence.
