Sowore Confronts Umahi at FCT Police Command Over Alleged N250m Debt Dispute (Video)

Sowore and Umahi

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has detailed his confrontation with the Minister of Works, David Umahi, at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja.

In a statement released after a viral video of the incident surfaced online, Sowore alleged that he met Umahi inside a conference room at the police command, where officers had allegedly created an avenue for the minister to confront a woman who accused him of owing her N250 million and making inappropriate advances toward her years ago.

According to Sowore, the woman, identified as Tracy Nither Nicolas Ohiri, a married woman, was arrested in Lagos over allegations of “cyberbullying,” flown to Abuja, and detained. He argued that her claim — that Umahi has owed her N250 million for over 12 years — is fundamentally a civil dispute and should not have been criminalised.

Sowore accused the police of escalating the matter, alleging that after detaining her, they facilitated a meeting that allowed the minister to confront and allegedly intimidate her within the police facility.

“Today at the FCT Command of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja, I confronted the Minister of Works, David Umahi, inside a conference room where police operatives had effectively set up shop for him to harass a woman who accused him of owing her and making a pass at her years ago,” Sowore stated.

He further claimed that upon his arrival, the ongoing session was abruptly dismantled and Umahi left the premises visibly angry. Sowore also alleged that despite the confrontation, the police initially refused to grant the woman bail or release her.

According to him, he later learned that Umahi allegedly made a remark on his way out of the command, suggesting that the woman “has not seen anything yet.”
