Former Presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and the Nigerian Bar Association NBA, have expressed their displeasure after Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday March 16, ordered Marshall Abubakar, Omoyele’s lawyer to kneel down in court.
Abubakar was in court to represent Sowore in the case the DSS filed against him over the Facebook post he shared in June 2025 in which he described President Tinubu as a ‘’criminal’.
The lawyer got the judge angry when he raised his voice while making submissions in court. Abubakar raised his voice while insisting that the date chosen by the court for the defence to open its case was not convenient for him.
The judge who got infuriated by Abubakar’s raised voice, ordered him to “come out” of the bar area of the courtroom “and kneel down.”
Other lawyers, however, quickly prevailed upon the judge to forgive Mr Abubakar
Reacting to the judge’s decision, Sowore in a post shared on FB expressed his displeasure and said he is happy his lawyer did not obey the order of the judge.
The NBA in a statement released, said no judge has the power to ask a lawyer to kneel down in court.
