Sowore Reacts as Nnamdi Kanu Allegedly Transferred to Sokoto Prison

Sowore and Nnamdi Kanu

Activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore has reacted to reports that Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been secretly transferred to a maximum-security prison in Sokoto State.

Sowore claimed that the decision to move Kanu to the northern facility was deliberate, arguing that authorities feared taking him to Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja. “They openly said he would ‘become a king’ if taken to Kuje, because his supporters and the Igbo community would turn the facility into a place of pilgrimage,” Sowore alleged.

He further accused the government of attempting to isolate Kanu and make him vulnerable, while using public relations tactics to create the illusion of hope for his release. According to Sowore, the move is part of a broader strategy to keep the activist detained indefinitely.

Sowore warned that Kanu’s most significant threats, in reality, come from political actors in his own region, who allegedly fear his influence and popularity. He condemned attempts to frustrate public protests calling for Kanu’s freedom, urging citizens to remain vigilant.
