Tension gripped Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, on Saturday following the sound of gunshots at the venue of a mega rally organized by NEW Associates, a group loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The rally, coordinated by George Turnah, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, was ongoing when the gunfire erupted, causing momentary panic among attendees.
Security personnel swiftly intervened to restore order, and normalcy has since returned to the area.
Addressing journalists after the incident, the Secretary of NEW Associates in Bayelsa State, Comrade Ebilade Ekerefe, condemned the disruption and affirmed that the rally would proceed as planned.
Despite the scare, supporters of NEW Associates have since regrouped and resumed the event.
