Tension is brewing in Ekiti State following the destruction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Secretariat in Ado-Ekiti by suspected political thugs alleged to be loyal to a rival political party.
The attack, which reportedly occurred late Monday night, left the building and everything inside completely destroyed, including furniture, campaign materials, and official documents.
A video shared on the ADC’s official Facebook page showed the secretariat engulfed in flames, with shattered windows and burnt billboards littering the premises
Reacting to the incident, the ADC condemned the act and accused its political rivals of attempting to intimidate its members ahead of major party activities.
“Our Party Secretariat was set ablaze by those threatened by the rising momentum and strong organisational structure that the Ekiti ADC is building,” the party said in a statement. “This cowardly act is unfortunate, but it will only strengthen our determination and unity. The ADC in Ekiti has come to stay.”
Sources said the attack happened just hours before the party’s planned Reconfiguration and Affirmation Ceremony for its ward, local government, senatorial, and state executives
Despite the damage, the ADC leadership vowed not to bow to intimidation, insisting that its political mission in the state remains on course.
“Our spirit remains unbroken; our vision, unstoppable,” the statement added.
As of press time, the Ekiti State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement or confirm any arrests related to the attack.
