A peace dialogue held on Monday in Kankara town, Katsina State, with suspected Fulani bandits has raised concerns among residents over the continued possession of arms by the group.
Some community members expressed worry that despite reconciliation talks, some of the bandits still move freely within the society carrying weapons.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, questioned the rationale behind negotiating peace while armed men were left unchecked in communities.
“Peace cannot be genuine if bandits are allowed to retain their weapons and operate among civilians,” the resident said.
