A Political turbulence continues to buffet the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amid reports that two of its sitting governors Bayelsa’s Douye Diri and Enugu’s Peter Mbah plan to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) this month.
According to insider sources, Governor Peter Mbah is expected to formally join the APC today, while Governor Douye Diri is reported to make his defection on October 14. If true, these moves would mark a dramatic shift in Nigeria’s political landscape, especially in the South-South and Southeast regions.
The speculation is not entirely new. Political watchers have long flagged Diri as a likely defector. In June 2025, Senate President Godswill Akpabio hinted that Diri and Rivers State’s Siminalayi Fubara “may be next to dump PDP for APC.”
Meanwhile, signs of unrest in Enugu State have escalated in recent months. Mbah has increasingly skipped PDP governors’ meetings, fueling speculation about his commitment to the party. The APC also appears to be preparing structurally for his entry the national working committee is reportedly taking steps toward reconfiguring Enugu’s PDP leadership.
