Global tensions are rising after Donald Trump warned that the United States could target Iran’s power infrastructure if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened within 48 hours.
According to emerging reports, the warning comes amid growing fears of a wider regional conflict between the United States and Iran following heightened military activity in the Gulf.
Iranian officials have responded with strong threats of retaliation, warning that if its power plants are attacked, it could strike critical U.S.-linked energy facilities across the Middle East. Tehran also reportedly threatened to target desalination infrastructure in the region.
The threat has raised alarm because many Gulf countries rely heavily on desalination for drinking water. In Kuwait, about 90% of drinking water comes from desalination plants, while roughly 70% of water supplies in Saudi Arabia depend on the same systems.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that fighter jets have been dispatched toward Iranian airspace as tensions continue to mount. The escalation is also linked to security concerns involving Israel, with officials suggesting retaliation could follow recent attacks affecting Israeli citizens.
