Suspected terrorists have set ablaze an abandoned Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) in Zamfara State following an earlier improvised explosive device (IED) attack on troops in the area.
According to reports, the incident occurred in Anka Local Government Area, where soldiers were targeted last Sunday. The IED explosion reportedly damaged the military vehicle, forcing troops to abandon it before later evacuating its remains.
In a video circulating online, armed men believed to be terrorists were seen moving freely around the immobilised APC before eventually setting it on fire. Security sources indicate that the vehicle was not captured during combat but was left behind due to the impact of the explosion.
The attackers are suspected to be loyal to notorious bandit leader Gwaska. One of the individuals spotted in the footage, identified as Buba, is said to be a close associate who recently lost his wife in a separate IED-related incident.
The latest development highlights the persistent security challenges in parts of northwestern Nigeria, particularly in Zamfara, where armed groups continue to carry out attacks on both civilians and military personnel.
