There have been rumors in the media that the naming of Accra Sports Stadium is to be privatize. Meanwhile, Mr. Charles Amofa, the spokesperson of the National Sports Authority (NSA) has debunked such rumors.
Speaking in an interview with Rockson Agyei Yeboah on Ghana-Kumasi Base radio station Fox FM’s Focal Sports, Mr. Amofa explained that “there is no truth in the story”. The NSA spokesperson further explained that their office has no power and authority to privatize the stadium.
Mr. Amofa also stated that the NSA do not have any intensions to privatize the stadium. “We have no agenda on the naming of the stadium”. Moreover, the stadium is a national asset which serves the general public.
When asked on the petition from the family of Ohene Djan (the late) on the naming of the stadium, he explained that “the NSA have not received such petition. The naming of the stadium has to be conducted by the Youth and Sports Ministry and even Parliament before a decision can be taken.”
