The Unnecessary Attacks On Alex Otti By Godwin Offor

Alex Otti

The increasing attacks on Governor Alex Otti are not only unnecessary; they are revealing. They expose a political discomfort that comes when long-held narratives collapse under the weight of visible performance. For the first time in many years, Abia State has a governor whose work speaks louder than propaganda, whose results are measurable, and whose leadership style contrasts sharply with a past many would rather forget.

Governor Alex Otti’s emergence marked a turning point in Abia’s history. After decades of recycled promises and cosmetic governance, Abians began to witness what purposeful leadership looks like. From infrastructure renewal to fiscal discipline, from urban renewal to institutional reforms, Otti has redefined governance in a state once resigned to stagnation. It is therefore no surprise that his success has unsettled those who thrived in chaos, opacity, and low expectations.

The attacks on Otti are poorly scripted because they lack substance. They are not rooted in facts, performance metrics, or public dissatisfaction. Instead, they rely on noise, distortion, and desperation. You cannot attack road projects that exist, salaries that are paid, hospitals that function, or a capital city that is gradually regaining its lost pride. You cannot wish away competence simply because it exposes years of misrule.

Governor Otti’s greatest achievement may not even be physical infrastructure, impressive as that has been. It is the restoration of trust between government and the people. Abians now believe that taxes paid will translate into services rendered. Civil servants believe that promotions and salaries are earned and predictable. Investors believe that Abia is once again open for business. These are intangible gains, but they are the foundation upon which lasting development is built.

What distinguishes Otti from many of his predecessors is his approach to power. He governs with a sense of stewardship, not entitlement. There is a clear departure from the culture of impunity that once defined the state. Public funds are treated as sacred, not personal. Governance is approached as a responsibility, not a reward for political loyalty. This is why his administration resonates across party lines and demographic divides.

Historically, Abia has had governors, but few can be described as transformative. Alex Otti belongs firmly in that rare category. In just a short time, he has altered the trajectory of the state and reset the standard by which future leaders will be judged. Roads that were abandoned for decades are now functional. Urban planning has returned to Aba and Umuahia. Financial leakages are being blocked. These are not slogans; they are realities Abians live with daily.

As 2027 approaches, it is clear that no amount of manufactured outrage can erase these accomplishments. You cannot push a performing governor out through misinformation when the people themselves are witnesses to his work. The attacks, rather than weakening Otti, only strengthen his political capital by reminding Abians of the stark difference between yesterday and today.

Governor Alex Otti remains one of the best governors in Abia State’s history not because he is perfect, but because he is purposeful, transparent, and effective. Leadership is ultimately about impact, and on that score, Otti stands tall. Those attacking him would do better to learn from his example—or prepare for the political irrelevance that often follows when performance is met with envy instead of introspection.

Abia has chosen progress, and Alex Otti is its face.
