‘This Is No Time for Bow and Go!’ — Akpabio Clashes with Senator Over Defence Nominee

Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday pushed back against a call by Senator Sani Musa for Defence Minister–designate Maj.-Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd.) to be allowed to “bow and go” during his ministerial screening.

Akpabio insisted that, given Nigeria’s serious security challenges — including the abduction of more than 200 children still held captive — the nominee must answer critical questions to reassure the country.

“This is not the time for the politics of ‘bow and go’. Even Donald Trump is on our neck,” Akpabio said in response to Musa’s appeal. “We have not asked him what his response will be to Donald Trump. A nominee for Minister of Defence cannot just stand up and bow and go, with so many questions on the minds of Nigerians and over 200 children still in the bush being tortured. Let’s give the man the opportunity to give Nigerians hope.”

The Senate thereafter proceeded with an extended questioning session, focusing on the nominee’s plans to tackle insecurity across the country.
