Tragedy struck in Oju Local Government Area of Benue State on Thursday following the death of a teacher, Mr. Oyibe Oyibe, allegedly k1lled by a Junior Secondary School 3 student during a heated confrontation over a seized school cap.
The 16-year-old student, identified as Friday Ogamude, reportedly attacked the teacher at the UBE Oju Centre, where the incident occurred. The confrontation was said to have stemmed from a disciplinary action taken by Mr. Oyibe in May 2025, when he confiscated the student’s cap.
According to eyewitnesses, the student approached the 35-year-old teacher on Thursday to demand the return of his cap, but the situation quickly escalated into a physical altercation. In the ensuing scuffle, the student allegedly struck the teacher, causing him to slump to the ground.
