Troops conducting Operation Peace Shield and Operation Zafin Wuta have cleared multiple bandit hideouts in Southern Taraba, destroying two camps and forcing fleeing fighters into neighbouring Benue State, military sources said on Sunday.
Akelicious gathered that the joint operation carried out by troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, and Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke targeted notorious enclaves around Shiid village, Tor-Tser, Likam Mountain, Agia village, and Tyozua village, all in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The raid, which began around 0207 hours on December 7, followed credible intelligence indicating the presence and movement of bandits believed to have been hiding within the difficult mountainous terrain.
According to military sources, the troops were split into two elements:
- Team A was positioned at Tor-Tser to block escape routes,
- while Team B, serving as the assault team, advanced toward Shiid village near Likam Mountain.
“On sighting the troops, the bandits fled deeper into the mountains, abandoning two major camps. The camps were subsequently searched, cleared, and destroyed,” one of the sources said.
It was further learned that the fleeing fighters had previously bragged that troops would be unable to access their hideouts due to the challenging topography of the mountain range.
Military reinforcement and follow-up operations are reportedly ongoing in the area to prevent regrouping and ensure sustained security.
