Troops Foil Mass Abduction, Rescue Over 150 Civilians in North-East

Troops Foil Mass Abduction,

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully foiled a planned mass abduction by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, rescuing more than 150 civilians in Borno State.

The incident occurred along the Buratai–Kamuya axis, where soldiers escorting civilians came under heavy attack. During the confrontation, surveillance revealed that insurgents were attempting to abduct dozens of men, women, and children using multiple vehicles.

In a swift response, reinforcements moved in, repelled the attackers and launched a counter-offensive, forcing the terrorists to abandon both their captives and vehicles while fleeing into nearby bush areas.
All rescued civilians were safely evacuated to Buratai for onward reunification with their families.

However, during the pursuit operation, troops encountered an improvised explosive device (IED) along the Bula Zarma–Mangari route, leaving five soldiers seriously injured. The wounded personnel have since been evacuated for medical treatment.

Military authorities say the operation highlights the readiness and resilience of troops, especially as security is intensified ahead of the Easter period
