Maiduguri, Feb. 20, 2026 (NAN) – Troops of the 202 Battalion under Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised four terrorists during a fighting patrol in Borno State, while one soldier sustained injuries in the operation.
According to a Special Situation Report issued by Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, the incident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 20 during a long-duration fighting patrol to Sabsawa Village. The patrol was aimed at denying terrorists freedom of action within the area of responsibility.
The report stated that troops made contact with the insurgents at coordinates N11°30’15.42” E13°44’11.28” after the terrorists opened sporadic fire on the patrol team.
Troops reportedly responded with a heavy volume of fire, forcing the insurgents to flee in different directions.
“During exploitation of the area, troops discovered four neutralised terrorists. However, one soldier was wounded in action during the firefight,” the report stated.
The injured soldier has since been evacuated to the 21 Special Armoured Brigade Medical Centre, where he is currently receiving treatment and is said to be in stable condition.
The military added that further exploitation of the area was ongoing to track fleeing insurgents and recover possible equipment.
It noted that although the general security situation across the theatre remains calm, it is still unpredictable, while troops’ morale and fighting efficiency remain satisfactory.
