Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has announced his retirement from international football after earning 83 caps and featuring in five major tournaments.

He described his decade-long career as a dream fulfilled, highlighting moments such as winning Olympic bronze in 2016, playing at the 2018 World Cup, and leading Nigeria to a silver medal at AFCON 2023, where he was named Player of the Tournament.

Ekong thanked coaches, teammates, and fans for their support, saying the time had come to pass the captaincy to the next generation. He noted that while his playing chapter with the Super Eagles has ended, his commitment to Nigerian communities will continue.
