Suspected terrorists loyal to notorious bandit kingpin Bello Turji have attacked Gajit community in Lajinge District of Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, injuring at least two persons and abducting more than 20 residents.
Akelicious gathered that the assailants arrived the community in large numbers on Tuesday night, shooting sporadically and causing residents to flee in fear before whisking away several victims to an unknown destination.
A security alert platform, Bakatsine, confirmed the attack on Wednesday, describing it as part of a series of coordinated assaults allegedly carried out by Bello Turji’s loyalists across communities in the Sokoto East Senatorial District.
The latest incident comes amid renewed violence linked to the bandit leader. Akelicious had earlier reported that Bello Turji recently launched fresh attacks aimed at taking control of several communities in Sokoto’s eastern axis, beginning with a deadly raid on Tidibale village in Isa Local Government Area on Monday night.
According to findings, the armed group stormed Tidibale in large numbers, forcing residents to flee their homes under the cover of darkness. In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, villagers were seen abandoning their houses as families escaped to neighbouring communities for safety.
Bargaja village, also in Isa Local Government Area, was reportedly attacked days earlier, with security sources describing the incidents as part of a systematic campaign by Turji’s group to expand control over strategic rural settlements.
Despite repeated assurances by authorities, residents of several Sokoto communities continue to face persistent attacks, abductions, and forced displacement linked to armed bandit groups operating within the state and adjoining areas.
