Two members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have withdrawn from the ongoing process to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, urging their colleagues to embrace dialogue and peace.
The lawmakers are Hon. Sylvanus Nwankwo, who represents Omuma State Constituency and serves as the Minority Leader of the Assembly, and Hon. Peter Abbey, the member representing Degema State Constituency.
In a joint stance made known on Monday, the legislators distanced themselves from the impeachment proceedings and appealed to fellow lawmakers to reconsider the path of confrontation. They stressed the need for a peaceful and political solution to the crisis, warning that impeachment could further deepen tensions in the state.
According to the lawmakers, Rivers State requires stability and unity at a time when governance and development should be the priority. They called on all stakeholders to place the interest of the people above political differences and work towards reconciliation.
The withdrawal by the two legislators marks a notable development in the unfolding political situation at the Rivers State House of Assembly, as the impeachment move against Governor Fubara and his deputy continues to generate intense debate and public attention across the state.
