UBA Chairman, Tony Elumelu Honoured with Gabon’s Highest National Award

The President of the Republic of Gabon, His Excellency General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, has bestowed the nation’s highest civilian honour on the Group Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc and Founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, Mr. Tony Elumelu.

Elumelu was conferred with the Commander in the National Order of Gabonese Merit, in recognition of his significant contributions to Africa’s economic transformation, with a particular focus on youth entrepreneurship, financial empowerment, and infrastructural development across Gabon and the continent.

The honour reflects Elumelu’s long-standing commitment to empowering the next generation of African leaders through his philanthropic and business initiatives, notably the Tony Elumelu Foundation, which has supported thousands of young entrepreneurs across Africa with funding, training, and mentorship.

In his acceptance, Elumelu expressed deep gratitude to the people and government of Gabon, reaffirming his belief that “Africa’s future lies in the hands of its young people, and with the right support, they will transform the continent.”
