“Unacceptable Tragedy” – Rev. Dachomo Condemns Plateau Massacre

Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo

A community leader, Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, has strongly condemned the killing of five members of a family during a brutal attack on Mbwelle village in Forof District of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State.

The deadly incident, which occurred on the night of April 9, 2026, has sparked outrage among residents, with allegations of security failure and complicity heightening tensions in the area.

According to reports from local sources, the attack lasted for nearly two hours, with armed assailants unleashing gunfire across the village as residents fled for safety. Witnesses claimed the attackers had strategically positioned snipers along escape routes, shooting at anyone attempting to flee, while others were killed inside their homes.

Among the victims was a pregnant woman who was reportedly killed alongside her unborn child, further deepening the grief in the community.

Rev. Dachomo, reacting to the incident, described the killings as barbaric and unacceptable, lamenting what he called a preventable tragedy. He questioned the absence of intervention by security personnel, noting that military forces were stationed less than three kilometers from the village during the attack.

Residents also expressed shock after reportedly sighting an Operation Enduring Peace gun truck, marked “E5” and believed to be attached to Sector 5, positioned near a Fulani settlement identified as Korong—where witnesses allege the attackers retreated after the assault.

Survivors recounted that the attackers not only used firearms but also machetes, leaving behind widespread destruction and trauma. Some witnesses further alleged that the assailants shouted religious slogans during the attack.

The incident has renewed concerns over the safety of communities in Bokkos, with locals alleging that certain settlements in the area have been forcibly occupied and continue to pose threats to surrounding villages.

Rev. Dachomo called on the government and security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation, ensure justice for the victims, and take urgent steps to protect vulnerable communities from further attacks.
