United States Congresswoman Sara Jacobs has criticized former President Donald Trump’s threat of military action in Nigeria over alleged Christian genocide, calling it “reckless”.
Jacobs, a Democrat representing California’s 51st Congressional District, made the remarks on Thursday during a US Congress hearing discussing Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern. She emphasized that attributing the violence in Nigeria solely to a religious crisis oversimplifies a complex situation.
“President Trump’s threat is reckless, and any unilateral military action in Nigeria is illegal. Congress has not authorized force in Nigeria to protect Christians,” Jacobs stated.
A member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Africa, Jacobs noted that the ongoing violence affects both Christians and Muslims, urging the Nigerian government to do more to safeguard its citizens.
