A United States lawmaker, Riley Moore, has condemned the recent burning of a Catholic church in Taraba State, describing the incident as part of ongoing violence against Christians in Nigeria.
Reacting to the attack, Moore expressed concern over what he characterized as persistent assaults by extremist groups, stating that Christian communities in parts of Nigeria continue to face deadly threats.
He called on the Federal Government in Abuja to intensify efforts to secure vulnerable regions, particularly in the Middle Belt, which has witnessed recurring clashes and attacks.
The US lawmaker also advocated for structural reforms in Nigeria’s security architecture, urging authorities to consider decentralizing policing powers. According to him, granting more control to state governments could enhance rapid response and improve local security.
“It is past time to empower state authorities to better protect their citizens and curb this horrific violence,” Moore said.
