The Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, has commended Pakistan for its role in facilitating ongoing negotiations between the US and Iran over nuclear issues, while confirming that no agreement has been reached.
Speaking at the start of a briefing, Vance expressed appreciation to Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, and the country’s Chief of Army Staff, Asim Munir, describing them as “incredible hosts.”
He noted that any shortcomings in the negotiations were not due to Pakistan’s efforts, emphasizing that the country played a key role in attempting to bridge gaps between the US and Iran.
“We’ve had a number of substantive discussions with the Iranians. That’s the good news,” Vance said. “The bad news is that we have not reached an agreement — and I think that’s bad news for Iran much more than it’s bad news for the United States.”
The US Vice President reiterated Washington’s firm stance on nuclear non-proliferation, stressing that any deal must include a clear commitment from Iran not to pursue nuclear weapons or develop capabilities that could enable rapid weaponization.
The ongoing talks are part of broader diplomatic efforts to address long-standing tensions over Iran’s nuclear program, with global stakeholders closely watching for any breakthrough.
