Controversial Nigerian activist, VeryDarkMan (VDM), has reportedly been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), according to sources close to the development. Contrary to earlier assumptions linking his arrest to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), it has now been confirmed that it was the DSS who first picked him up last Friday.
Sources disclosed that the EFCC had previously invited VDM for questioning on at least six occasions—notifications which he allegedly ignored, with some messages being blocked shortly after reaching his WhatsApp. The most recent invitation was sent via his official email address.
The EFCC, after learning of the DSS arrest, reportedly requested custody of VDM for their own pending investigations, particularly one involving a woman currently under probe for money laundering. Authorities claim to have intercepted conversations and tracked financial transactions between VDM and the woman, which could form part of the EFCC’s ongoing financial crimes inquiry.
However, sources suggest the more serious concerns lie with the DSS. VDM’s phone conversations have allegedly been under surveillance by the agency for some time. Insider information suggests the DSS has compiled sufficient evidence justifying his arrest, though details of the alleged offenses remain under wraps.
