As President Bola Tinubu prepares to visit Benue State on Wednesday over the recent spate of killings, Governor Hyacinth Alia has ordered an emergency clean-up of Makurdi, with residents clearing bushes and roads overnight.
A viral video shows locals using cutlasses and mowers late into the night. One resident is heard saying, “It’s tonight the governor remembered to clear town because the president is coming.”
A government letter also directed support groups to stage a colourful procession from the airport to Government House, where Tinubu will hold a town hall meeting.
However, social media users are questioning the motive behind the clean-up and elaborate mobilization, asking why such effort is being put into appearances when the visit is about tragic k**lings and not a celebration.
