Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday presided over the 149th meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

In a post shared on his official Facebook page, the Vice President disclosed that key decisions were made during the meeting, including the endorsement of the establishment of a Cotton, Textile, and Garment Development Board, alongside new strategies for agribusiness expansion and livestock transformation — projects collectively expected to generate $90 billion in economic value by 2035.

Other resolutions reached at the meeting include the creation of a national office for the Green Imperative Project (GIP) in Abuja, with regional offices across the six geopolitical zones, and discussions on addressing the challenges of animal husbandry in the country.

The Council also observed a minute of silence in memory of victims of the recent violent attacks in Benue and Plateau States, extending condolences to the families, communities, and governments affected.

The NEC meeting, which draws membership from state governors, key ministers, and the Central Bank Governor, serves as Nigeria’s highest economic policy advisory body.
