The Confederation of African Football has unveiled Born Winners as the official slogan for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, describing it as a celebration of the resilient and purpose-driven women shaping the future of African football.

CAF unveiled the slogan in a video shared on its official social media platforms on Tuesday evening, featuring members of Nigeria’s 2016 WAFCON-winning squad and current Super Falcons defender Michelle Alozie in medical attire and her national team jersey.

The full statement was published on CAF’s website on Wednesday.

CAF said the slogan reflects the identity of African women who embody a winning spirit both on and off the pitch.

“The bold slogan is more than just a rallying cry; it is a declaration of identity.

“Born Winners is a tribute to the spirit of African women who embody victory, in sport, in society, and in every corner of life,” the continental football body stated.

The theme, according to CAF, honours African women who are the driving force behind football on the continent, from grassroots pioneers to elite stars and pays homage to their consistent resilience and ambition.

“From the streets of Dakar to the stadiums of Johannesburg, from grassroots heroes to global stars, these women rise, relentlessly and fearlessly,” CAF said.

The organisation also emphasised the broader symbolism of the slogan, stating that Born Winners captures more than just on-field success. It underlines a legacy of determination, ambition and societal impact.

“Resilience is the unshakable drive to rise, even when the odds are against you. Ambition is the courage to break new ground, on and off the pitch. Legacy is the influence that echoes through generations, transforming communities and changing lives,” CAF said.

The unveiling has drawn comparisons to Mission X, the Nigeria Football Federation’s campaign launched in June for the Super Falcons as they chase a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

While CAF’s message targets the entire continent, both campaigns align in highlighting identity, leadership and the power of African women in sport.

CAF said the slogan for this year’s tournament is rooted in real stories of triumph and leadership.

“It signals the end of waiting and the rise of purpose-driven leadership, pride, and power,” it stated.

With the eleventh edition of the showpiece event set to kick off in Morocco on Saturday, Nigeria are in Group B, where they will face Tunisia, Botswana and Algeria.

They will begin their campaign on Sunday, July 6, against the Carthage Eagles in Casablanca.
