
Some football enthusists in Aba, Abia State, have advised the Super Falcons of Nigeria to raise their game against the Copper Queens of Zambia, if they want to win the Women’s African Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Super Falcons will on Friday take on the Zambians in the quaterfinal of the WAFCON in Morocco by 5pm.
Football enthusists who spoke to NAN in Aba on Monday, said the Falcons still remain one of the favourites to win the cup but need to stop wasting scoring opportunities.
A football lover and Enyimba FC fan, Alexandra Ukaoha said the Falcons have not played badly in the tournament but they have not been able to score goals in their last two group B matches.
Ukaoha noted that football is all about scoring and the Falcons have failed to take their chances against Botswana and Algeria, coming into the crucial stage of the tournament.
Chijioke Njoku, a student and footballer warned the Falcons against complacency against the Zambians in the quarterfinal match.
“You can make mistakes in the group stage and still cover up for it in other matches, but in this stage, you have no chances for error,” he said.
On her part, Christiana Obasi said that the team has a solid defence but should make their dominance in matches count with goals.
“We all know that women’s football in Africa has improved a lot, I believe that the Super Falcons have all it takes to rule Africa again,” he said.
Chidiebere Njoku, a vocalist, who predicted victory for Falcons against Zambia in the quarterfinal, expressed dismay over the team display in the last match of the group stage against Algeria.
“Falcons should have won the match against Algeria to put fear into the fearless Zambian Women’s team that has skipper Barbra Banda, ” he said.
