As government on Divine Mandate tripod anchored on transparency, probity and accountability, His Excellency Engr David Umahi has taken his stewardship account to members of the National Assembly from Ebonyi State and the Ebonyi business community in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
The interactive meeting which was held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotels Abuja provided ample opportunities for feedback and cross/pollination of ideas on how to move the state forward.
A statement made available by the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Francis Nwaze said Governor Umahi took attendees down memory lane and recounted the successes, heights scaled and significant milestones of the Divine Mandate administration which was birthed in 2015, noted that within the last 5 years, peace and security, education, human capital development and massive infrastructural development has topped his agenda.
He also explained that the fivefold covenants of widow and youths empowerment, beautification of the capital and leading the state with the fear of God evidenced in the construction of the largest Ecumenical Centre has been the cardinal focus of his administration, calling on all especially members of the National Assembly from the state and other key actors to close ranks, shun diversionary antics and bringing in constructive criticisms crucial in driving governance process.
He also disclosed that within the last 5 years, his administration has earmarked over 8 billion naira, a sum which was further divided into an average of 250,000 for various artisans in the streets of Lagos, which has made it possible for them to return to Ebonyi State for businesses. Also empowered are over four thousand widows and youths. On the areas of interventions, the governor explained that education, infrastructure and agriculture have received billions of naira within the last 5 years, assuring that within the next 2 years to the end of his administration, more dividends, through the collaborative effort, will be delivered to the state.
Governor Umahi said: “We accept criticisms because it is part of the job. The remaining two years plus is enough to make amends. This evening we came to interact with you and seek your sincere contributions to the development of our state because no one knows it all. When we came on board, we decided to implement our fivefold covenants which are empowerment of our people, empowerment of the widows, doing things with the fear of God, beautification of the capital city and others.
“It is true many may not like the flyovers and the roads we are building. Someone says we are building flyovers where there’s no river. When you go to Dubai UAE, what do you see? Do you see flyovers in a desert? People have downgraded us enough. So we decided to create a complex Flyover at the Ecumenical Centre.
“Today, we have the best Ecumenical Centre. On the area of security, it is only in Ebonyi State we parade one thousand Technical Assistants. We recently had a meeting with the Fulani herdsmen and part of that meeting was that any herdsmen killed by any community, such community must provide the killers, visa viz the herdsmen.
“I can assure you we have total peace in Ebonyi State.
“The idea is that whatever we have done, the incoming administration will not repeat it.
“The promise we made to Ebonyians before coming onboard, we have fulfilled them and we are doing more. We will not rest until Ebonyi becomes a giant in industrialization and economically stable”.
