Widows in Jos Protest Killings, Reject Tinubu Ahead of 2027 Elections

Widows in Jos

A group of widows in Jos have staged a protest over the continued wave of violence in Plateau State, vowing not to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

The women, who lost their husbands and relatives in recent attacks attributed to terrorists and armed groups, expressed deep frustration over what they described as the government’s inability to halt the persistent killings across communities in the state.

Carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs, the protesters called on the federal government to urgently address the worsening security situation. They lamented that despite repeated attacks, little has been done to protect vulnerable communities or bring perpetrators to justice.

Speaking during the protest, some of the widows accused the All Progressives Congress-led government of failing in its primary responsibility to safeguard lives and property. They insisted that their decision to withdraw electoral support was a direct response to the continued loss of lives and livelihoods.

“Our husbands were killed, our homes destroyed, and yet nothing has changed. We cannot continue to support a government that has failed to protect us,” one of the protesters said.

The demonstration highlights growing discontent among residents in Plateau communities, where recurring attacks have left many families displaced and grieving.

The protesters urged both federal and state authorities to intensify security operations, provide relief for victims, and ensure that those responsible for the violence are held accountable.
