A yet-to-be-identified housewife from Isoko ethnic nationality has been arrested for allegedly killing her husband and his alleged lover in Ighwre-Ovie area of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The suspect, a mother of two, is currently in detention at the Ughelli Area Command of the Delta State Police Command.
According to community sources, the incident was triggered by prolonged marital disputes allegedly arising from the husband’s extramarital affair. A resident who spoke to Vanguard said the woman had repeatedly accused her husband of infidelity before the tragic incident.
The source disclosed that on the day of the incident, the husband reportedly returned home drunk. Upon entering the house, the wife allegedly attacked him with a machete, inflicting multiple cuts to his head, which reportedly led to his instant death.
It was further alleged that a female neighbour who attempted to intervene was also attacked and sustained serious injuries to her jaw. She is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.
After the initial attack, the suspect reportedly went to the residence of her husband’s alleged lover, located within the same community, where she allegedly killed her using a hammer. Another woman in the neighbourhood was said to have narrowly escaped an attack after raising an alarm, which attracted residents and eventually led to the suspect’s arrest.
