Young Man Beaten to Death by Vigilante Group in Enugu Over False Theft Allegation

Amagu Iwollo Oghe community

A tragic incident has rocked the Amagu Iwollo Oghe community in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, where members of the Neighbourhood Watch have allegedly beaten a young man, Mr. Nosike Madueke, popularly known as Wojuwo, to death over a false theft accusation.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Monday, August 25, 2025, and was reportedly led by the community’s Chief Security Officer (CSO), Mr. Chukwuebuka Hillary Ngwueche, also known as Osuofia.

Sources revealed that the trouble began after a woman identified as Mrs. Nneka Nwankwo accused Madueke of stealing a box of clothes. Madueke had earlier been contracted by Nwankwo, alongside his co-workers, to repair her septic tank and soakaway before the theft allegation was raised.

Instead of handing him over to the police, the vigilante group allegedly took laws into their own hands. They were said to have arrested Madueke, searched his home, set his clothes on fire, and then subjected him to severe beatings with dangerous weapons.

Eyewitnesses reported that Madueke was paraded along a community road by the vigilante members before collapsing. Video footage later surfaced showing his lifeless body lying on the ground as distraught residents lamented: “See how they killed somebody’s only son for nothing.”

A source disclosed that the suspects have since gone into hiding, while the matter has been reported to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Enugu State Police Command.
