
The Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, on Friday, 26th September 2025, declared open the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area.
Governor Alia, represented by the Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Creativity, Hon. Tiza Isaac Imojime, warmly welcomed the 1,000 Corps Members comprising 407 males and 493 females. He congratulated them on their academic achievements and reminded them that their deployment to Benue was a call to service and nation-building.
The Governor reassured the Corps Members of his administration’s commitment to their welfare and safety throughout the service year. He explained that proactive security measures had been put in place in collaboration with security agencies to guarantee their protection. “Benue is a home away from home. Your safety, welfare and service impact are guaranteed,” he declared.
Highlighting the relevance of the NYSC in fostering unity and integration since its establishment in 1973, Governor Alia urged the Corps Members to freely interact, embrace the diversity of Nigeria, and cultivate friendships that would last a lifetime. He also encouraged them to take advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, describing it as a gateway to self-reliance and opportunities in today’s economy.
On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Governor formally declared the Orientation Course open and pledged the Benue State Government’s continued support for the scheme.
In her remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Garba Veronica, expressed joy at the successful commencement of the Orientation Course and appreciated the unwavering support of the Benue State Government. She acknowledged the Chief Judge of Benue State, Hon. Justice Maurice Ikpambese, represented by Hon. Justice J.N. Adagba, for administering the oath of allegiance.
Mrs. Veronica explained that the Orientation Course, which is the first of the scheme’s four cardinal programmes, was designed to instill discipline, leadership skills, and self-reliance in Corps Members through drills, lectures, sporting events, and entrepreneurship training. She urged them to fully engage in all camp activities and assured them of the hospitality of the Benue people.
She also commended NYSC officials and collaborating agencies for their dedication and called for sustained partnerships to strengthen the scheme and advance national development.
