Zamfara State Government Budgets N1bn for Cemeteries Amid Rising Insecurity

Zamfara State Government

The Zamfara State Government has earmarked ₦1 billion for the construction of cemeteries across 14 local government areas in its approved 2026 budget, as the state continues to grapple with persistent insecurity and recurring deadly attacks linked to banditry.

The allocation, captured under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, has drawn attention due to its timing, coming amid ongoing violence that has claimed numerous lives and displaced communities across the state.

In the latest incident, bandits reportedly ambushed residents of Kyaram community on Wednesday evening, killing at least five people, while several others were said to be missing as of the time of reporting.

Similarly, on January 29, 2025, suspected bandits attacked Gwargwaba village in the Nahuce District of Bungudu Local Government Area, killing at least four residents after storming the community.

Zamfara has remained one of the states worst hit by banditry in the North-West, with frequent attacks on rural communities, abductions, and mass killings despite repeated security operations by government forces.
