“₦3,750 to ₦61,350” —Nigerian Reacts to Rising Fuel Costs Under Tinubu

Nigerian

A Nigerian man has stirred widespread reactions on social media after highlighting the steady increase in the cost of filling a car fuel tank across different administrations, culminating in the current economic realities under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a viral post, the man compared fuel expenses from the era of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to the present day. According to him, filling a 50-litre tank of a Toyota Corolla cost ₦3,750 during Obasanjo’s administration and dropped slightly to ₦3,250 under late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

He noted that the price rose to ₦4,350 during the tenure of former President Goodluck Jonathan, before climbing significantly to ₦11,900 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

However, the sharpest increase, he claimed, has occurred under the current administration, with the cost now estimated at ₦61,350 to fill the same 50-litre tank.

The man questioned the optimism surrounding the current government, expressing frustration over the rising cost of living and economic hardship faced by many Nigerians.

His comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians agreeing that fuel prices and inflation have worsened economic conditions, while others argue that global oil market dynamics and subsidy removal policies have contributed to the current pricing.
