Master David Lawal has emerged the winner of the one day proprietor of King Emmanuel Schools, Ayobo, Lagos. Miss Eniola Oloyede will function as his deputy. Both emerged after a keenly contested Mathematics and English Language tests involving all SS 11 and SS 111 students of the school in the sixth edition of the annual programme.
This year’s event was unique as it was the first time a male and a female had emerged winner and first runner-up; formerly it had been either all males or females affairs.
The winners, both in SS 111, were presented to the students during the school’s morning assembly, which kick-started the event. Thereafter the “One day proprietor”, addressed the students and encouraged them to be focused in their studies in order to make good grades. After his address, he entertained questions from the students.
Addressing the students of the school, the proprietor, Mr. F. A. Baiyewu reiterated the aim of the competition, which is to impart leadership qualities in the students as future leaders.
Baiyewu while advising the winners on what leadership is all about, quoted Macbeth which says, “New honour comes upon him like a new garment which cleave not to their mode but with the aid of use”.
According to Baiyewu, the significance of the above quotation is to intimate them with the need to be consistent in the leadership development. “Remember, leadership is a process, not an event. A process encourages development, matures people and changes them. The positive virtues that are being inculcated in you and others should be role- modelled in your future endeavours”.
He congratulated the duo who interestingly are the outgoing head boy and head girl of the school.
An entourage which included the winners, proprietress, the principal and some staff of the school visited the Peace and Wisdom campuses (primary school section) of the school where they were received by the pupils and staff.
The 15-year-old “proprietor” who hails from Egbado North Local Government Area of Ogun State, explained how he made it and expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to emerge the winner. “When I heard about the competition, I saw it as an opportunity to prove myself. I took up the challenge and studied very hard. I thank God, He crowned my efforts with success”.
On his future ambition, he disclosed that he would like to be a Mechanical Engineer to impact on the society by inventing mechanical equipments that would make life easier for people.
Eniola Oloyede, 15 years old from Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State said she was so excited to be the Deputy, “One Day Proprietor”, although she prepared very hard in order to emerge the winner”. “An adage says, “Shoot for the moon, even if you fall, you will land among the stars.” So, I am glad I made it.
She has the ambition to become a Lawyer, writer and a proprietress in future. She advised her fellow students to study hard, be focused, and avoid procrastination.
