A 16-year-old boy, identified as Udochukwu Nwankwo, has been arrested by operatives of the Anambra State Police Command in connection with an alleged armed robbery in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday, September 2, 2026, by police operatives attached to B Division, Amansea, during a routine security patrol.

The police said a shiny metallic lighter designed to resemble a pistol was recovered from the suspect. The object was allegedly used to threaten victims and dispossess them of their valuables.

According to the Command, preliminary information indicated that Nwankwo and two other suspects, who are currently at large, allegedly attacked a guest at a hotel in the area and stole her mobile phone and other personal belongings.

The police further stated that during interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to using the recovered lighter to threaten victims during robbery operations.

The Command said it has intensified investigations and efforts to apprehend the two fleeing suspects, recover the stolen phone and other valuables, and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.

The development was contained in a statement issued by the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, on Wednesday.

The police urged members of the public to continue to provide useful information that could assist security agencies in apprehending criminal suspects and maintaining peace in the state.
